Benefits

Transit riders expect to be able to access schedule information quickly and conveniently.  ShuttleGirl helps you meet that demand, increase customer satisfaction, and reduce costs.
Make your transit system more convenient
Riders can access schedules from anywhere – Web browsers, wireless/handheld devices, even telephones*.  A simple query-based interface eliminates the need for unwieldy, hard-to-read, confusing timetables.
* With optional voice recognition module and services provided by Tellme Networks.
Create a new channel for customer relations
ShuttleGirl isn't just a schedule engine – it's a communication platform that gives you new ways to reach your customers.  Use ShuttleGirl to build a database of your regular commuters.  Publicize service advisories, solicit feedback, and stay in touch with your riders' needs.
Save money
A flexible, modular architecture means you won't pay high customization prices or be hit by hidden maintenance costs.  We paid for this development so you don't have to.  (An annual ShuttleGirl license costs less than you'd spend designing, developing, maintaining, supporting, and upgrading anything even remotely similar.)  Select your own application name, logo, and other custom features (icons, maps, etc.); your software can be ready for distribution within a few days!
With the full ShuttleGirl suite, you'll also realize potentially dramatic savings in schedule printing and call center costs.
Save time
ShuttleGirl updates all your published online schedules at once.  You don't need to waste time copying, pasting, and formatting timetables every time the schedule changes.
MultiRail® PE users can export schedule data to ShuttleGirl data format with a single click!
Good Questions
Why is the product called "ShuttleGirl"?
In the mid-1990s, an undergraduate student at Harvard University developed a UNIX-based program called Shuttleboy that would allow students to look up shuttle arrival times. The service ended when the student graduated, leaving a vacuum that we sought to fill.  Instead of reviving the original program, however, we started over and designed software to meet the needs of a fast-paced, mobile user body.  We created a platform to help students and faculty members search for transit information using Web browsers, Palm Powered™ handhelds, Internet-enabled cell phones, and even standard telephones.  We dubbed the software "ShuttleGirl" in honor of its inspiration.
ShuttleGirl launched in September 2000 and quickly became a cultural icon on the Harvard University campus.  Success of the system quickly snowballed into a deal with the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority.  Its designers joined Second Kiss Wireless, and are currently the lead developers of the ShuttleGirl product line.
If you're curious, the original site is still online at www.shuttlegirl.com.
Do we have to call the program "ShuttleGirl"?
No – you may rename the program as you wish.  Second Kiss Wireless can also design customized graphics and icons (using your logo, for instance) for your version of the program.  We have a multitude of customization options available.
Is ShuttleGirl compatible with my existing software?
If you use a database (or even a spreadsheet) to store your transit schedules, transferring data into ShuttleGirl should be a very simple matter.  Better yet, use ShuttleGirl-compatible scheduling software such as MultiModal's MultiRail® PE and enjoy a seamless interface between schedule stringing and publishing.
For more information and other options, check out the Data Integration page.
Does ShuttleGirl provide real-time information?
ShuttleGirl is not AVL (Automated Vehicle Location) software; it is focused on publishing data.  However, if you already have real-time information in your database (e.g. service alerts), many of the ShuttleGirl modules can be adapted to deliver that data right to your riders.  Look for details on our Software Customization page.
Which version of ShuttleGirl is right for me?
Each of the ShuttleGirl modules can be set up independently.  Choose the interfaces that best suit the needs of your riders, and add additional modules whenever you're ready.  Once we've integrated your data with any single ShuttleGirl module, new modules can be added in a matter of minutes.
Where did you get your company name?
Our first choice, "General Motors", was already taken.
